SCVMM 2012 P2V Windows Server 2000 error

$

Hello,

We have a Windows 2000 server which is currently visualized under vmware server 2.0

We'd like to convert it to Hyper-V. Unfortunately when trying to scan the system (to install the agent), via "Convert a Physical Server we get the error message:

Agent installation failed on srv12345.
Try the operation again. If the problem persists, install the agent locally and then add the managed computer.
ID: 410
Details: Not enough storage is available to process this command (0x8)

I've read this is actually a generic message and nothing to do with disk space. But we have plenty (10GB+) of disk space on srv12345.

We've done several p2v's machine conversions on 2000/2003 (vmware server) to Hyper-V in the past, all have been running completely fine for months.

Trying to install the agent manually (copying the files from our SCVMM machine -\\srvSCVMM2012\c$\Program Files\Microsoft System Center 2012\Virtual Machine Manager\agents\p2v\i386), running msiInstaller.exe it fails with error:

C:\temp\msiInstaller.exe is not a valid Win32 application

Any ideas what the problem could be? Or anywhere I can see a log for the error?

Thanks

Migration ESXi 4.1 -> Hyper-V

Just a warning mainly: (don't trust a beta ;)

Using SCVMM 2012 SP1 beta installed on Server 2012, Hyper-V core 2012 & ESXi 4.1  hosts..not sure if this is SP1 beta issue or VMM in general as haven't used it before.

Started migrating machines from ESXi 4.1 to Hyper-V using Create New VM->Convert virtual machine. Worked fine, but slowly, and had to go through all the settings. Once confirmed working OK, removed the old VM and it's files & VMDK's from the ESXi host.

I then noticed I could just 'drag-and-drop' the VM's from the ESXi host to the Hyper-V with just one more click on Migrate. This worked fine as well and saved going through pages of settings. The test worked fine. Deleted the old VM on the ESXi host, but didn't actually check what files were left there, I deleted the lot for the VM.

I then decided to let the final 4 migrations go on overnight, so I dragged the 4 of them to the Hyper-V host and off they went. Check in the morning and 2 failed and 2 OK (I guess the network cards just got hammered too much). No worries, I'll just set the 2 failed ones off again or fire them up so we can get on with some work today and worry about it later...?

Na-ah!

The drag-and-drop migrations deletes the 'migrated' VMDK's from the ESXi host (whereas create new VM->convert doesn't). I guess this is fine for the successful VM's, but it ALSO DELETED THE VMDK'S for the FAILED VM's! Two server's I had to go searching for backups for ... annoying.

Yes, I know, don't trust a beta. ;)

V2V (vmware esxi 4.1 to hyperv) credentials issue

So after 24 hours I started to realise I should of done more research on this however.....

I have finally got scvmm 2012 installed with sql 2008r2 database. Vcenter 5 installed and connected to esxi host (4.1). Vcenter and hosts are added to scvmm 2012 and I can see all the details  status is ok for all 4 guest on the machine. I've have an recently retired guest on the esxi host that I didn't remove so I could use it as a test for V2V conversion. I uninstalled the VM tools and powered it off went through the migrate virtual machine wizard everything seemed ok.

The job then failed with

Error (10406)
Virtual Machine Manager cannot contact 10.111.0.250 because the credentials for 10.111.0.250 are missing.

Recommended Action
Provide credentials for 10.111.0.250 and then try the operation again.

I can turn the guests off and on from scvmm2012 and I assume I wouldn't be able to do this if the credentials were wrong. So I'm a little stuck and unsure where to go.

Try to convert WinXP-->VMM does not have appropriate permissions to access the resource

 Hi

I want to perform a P2V conversion, just by connecting my source computer (win XP) with a crossovercable to the 2nd NIC of my W2k8 server.

IPadresses

w2k8 server with hyper-v : 192.168.1.13
source computer win xp : 192.168.1.12

I use SCVMM for the conversion, but it sais it has no permissions to access the resource.

VMM does not have appropriate permissions to access the resource on the 192.168.1.12 server.

Ensure that Virtual Machine Manager has the appropriate rights to perform this action.

ID: 2910

Details: Access is denied (0x80070005)

I guess it's due to the domain the w2k8 server is in...(the other NIC is connected to a domain).
Can someone give me some advice for making this set-up work?
Right now, it's just a test for future use of a NAS server, connected that way.

Thanks in advance!

Hi All

I have added in vCenter Servers and ESX Hosts successfully, with 100's of VMware VM's visibile in the VMM 2012 console.  However when slelecting to perform a 'convert virtual to virtual machine' I am only presented with a small number of VM's (and Templates??) to choose from.  Ive checked that the version of VMware being used and that the majority do not use IDE disks.  Does anyone have any ideas what else may be causing this issue?

How to virtualize Domain Controller Virtual (virtualized in Xen (Suse-Linux)) to Hyper-V

Hello everybody.

What is the best practice to virtualize a DC virtualized in a Suse Linux  under Xen to hyper-V in offline mode.

Can I virtualize in hot mode  a Windows Server2008R2 DC already virtualized, with the Disk2vhd tool? Thanks in advance.

P2V to local disk

Is there a way to P2V into a local disk on one of the cluster hosts?  I know Microsoft says it can't be done but wasn't this option available in VMM 2008 R2?  Being that I can't shrink the disk when I do a P2V.  If I'm doing a P2V of a physical server with a 400GB D: for example but only 50GB are being used, I would have to have a CSV with over 400GB of space available just to do the P2V.  I don't want the VM to be clustered I just want to put it on local disk.  Can it be done with VMM or 3rd party app?

SCVMM 2008 R2 P2V conversion fails Error: 410

Hello.

I’m having trouble with a P2V conversion. The wizard will not complete the Scan phase. The following error occurs:

Agent installation failed on servername.

“Try the operation again. If the problem persists, install the agent locally and then add the managed computer.

ID: 410
Details: Fatal error during installation (0x80070643)”

I see no Event Log entries on the SCVMM server. On the target physical machine the System log shows that Event 7045 first the VMMInstallDetector, then the VMMAgentInstaller, were both installed. But they were both followed by the following Event 7024:

“The VMMInstallDetector service terminated with service-specific error %%-2146041853.”

“The VMMAgentInstaller service terminated with service-specific error %%-2147023293.”

The Application log shows mvvp2vsource.msi being installed, and logs the following failure events:

“Event 11708
Product: Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager P2V Agent (x64) -- Installation failed.”

“Event 1033
Windows Installer installed the product. Product Name: Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager P2V Agent (x64). Product Version: 2.0.4271.0. Product Language: 1033. Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation. Installation success or error status: 1603.”

I tried copying vmmp2vsource.msi to the target and installing it manually, and it installs just fine. The target is a domain member, the SCVMM machine is a member of the local administrators group, and it doesn’t seem to be a permissions problem.

Target is Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard SP1, fully patched up to date as of today. SCVMM is version 2008 R2. Windows Firewall and Kaspersky AV are disabled. I checked msiexec.exe on the target server and the Details tab shows the file version is 5.0.7601.17514.

Any ideas how to make it work? Maybe turn on some kind of extended logging with SCVMM to troubleshoot?

Thanks!

Dan

I'm trying to do P2V for one of my server but the job will fail at 60% everytime.

The error i received is

Error(2915)

The windows remote management(WS-Management) service cannot process the request. The object was not found on the server.

Unknown error(0x80338000)

Recommended Action

Ensure that the VMM agent is installed and running. If the error persists, restart the virtualization server and then try the operation again.

This error can also happen due to an older version of the VMM agent on the virtualization server. Ensure that the VMM agent is upgraded to the latest version, and then try the operation again.

I tried to restart the VMM agent and server also the problem still occured.

I also restarted WS-Management service but still cannot solve the problem.

Please can someone help me?

Thank you

P2V Broadcom NIC Drivers?

Hello,

I am getting the following warning (error) when attempting to P2V a Dell PowerEdge T510 server:

Warning (13246)
No compatible drivers were identified for the device: Broadcom BCM5716C NetXtreme II GigE (NDIS VBD Client). The offline physical-to-virtual conversion requires a driver for this device.

Device Type: network adapter
Device Description: Broadcom BCM5716C NetXtreme II GigE (NDIS VBD Client)
Device Manufacturer: Broadcom Corporation

Compatible IDs (listed in order of preference):

B06BDRV\L2ND&PCI_163B14E4
B06BDRV\L2ND

Recommended Action
Create a new folder under C:\Program Files\Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2\Driver Import on the Virtual Machine Manager server and then copy the necessary 32-bit Windows Vista driver package files for this device to the new folder. The driver package files include the driver (.sys) and installation (.inf and .cat) files. Check the device manufacturer's website for the necessary drivers.

I must perform an OFFLINE P2V because the server is a domain controller (SBS2008).

I just can't seem to find the correct drivers that pass the P2V Prerequisite checks!  I have tried the official drivers located at:

http://www.broadcom.com/support/ethernet_nic/netxtremeii.php

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd&releaseid=R256028&SystemID=PWE_R510&os=WLHS1&osl=en&deviceid=8641&devlib=0&fileid=376064

AND various 3rd party sites searching the Internet.  Nothing seems to make the Pre-req check happy.

I've read various threads of people having to install an Intel NIC to complete their P2V.  But I'd like to try to finish this project over the weekend and PCIe NICs are hard to find at local retailers!  There has to be some place out there that I can get WinPE compatible Broadcom drivers?!

Thanks,

-Tim

P2V: Error 2944 and 3140 after restarting Job

Hello together,

we have to migrate some VMs from XenServer to Hyper-V using VMM 2012 SP1. So we created an P2V offline-Job. The VM rebootet into WinPE but could not find the Hyper-V Server - other machines with the same config do.

We tried to restart the Job, but the VM didn't even boot into WinPE an we just got Error 3140.

Do you have any ideas what we can do to get the VM boot into WinPE again?

Kind Regards

Johannes

V2V – VMware to Hyper-v error 23801

I think I’m missing something obvious but the solution escapes me.  I'm also new to VMM.

I just setup System Center 2012 : VMM SP1.   Connected my vCenter servers.  Have Hyper-V servers attached to VMM.  VMM can pull stats down from all servers.   But when I try to convert any stopped vmware vm (esxi 4.0) it fails right away with a notice that says:

No available connection to selected VM Network can be found.
Ensure host NICs have connections to the fabric network on which VM Network is created.
ID: 23801

I can’t find anything wrong with the network settings.

On V2V migration from ESX i'm recieving following script from VMM SP1 RTM:

$VM = Get-SCVirtualMachine -VMMServer sys.contoso.com -Name"Brunswick" -ID "a067185c-9019-4b02-8d69-ec55eaba970d" | where {$_.VMHost.Name -eq "esx.tmn.contoso.com"}
$VMHost = Get-SCVMHost -VMMServer sys.contoso.com | where {$_.Name -eq "video-tmn.tmn.contoso.com"}

New-SCV2V -VM $VM -VMHost $VMHost -Path "F:\Hyper-V" -Name "Brunswick" -Description "" -RunAsynchronously -JobGroup 41b59f65-dff9-4aa4-b58d-2591b59fbc97 -Trigger -CPUCount 1 -MemoryMB 512 -StartAction NeverAutoTurnOnVM -StopAction TurnOffVM

Then VMM fails the migration with syntax error:

Ошибка (2901)
Операция не была успешно завершена из-за недопустимого параметра или последовательности вызовов.
Параметр задан неверно (0x80070057)

Рекомендуемое действие
Проверьте правильность параметров и повторите операцию.

When I parse this script to VMM PowerShell window, i get error on  the 4-th string:

$VirtualNetworkAdapter = Get-SCVirtualNetworkAdapter -VMMServer sys.contoso.com -Name "Brunswick" -ID "ce2e7e92-a212-4706-b935-c91ca5012d6a"

According to technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh801479.aspx  Get-CSVirtualNetworkAdapter doesNOT have -VMMServer attribute, when used with -NAME and -ID!

Ideas? How to fix or submit/contribute this bug?

---- Update:------

I've run the script in PowerShell, and it still throws error 2901 (0x80070057).

Even such one:

Get-SCVirtualMachine -VMHost esx.tmn.contoso.com -Name Brunswick | New-SCV2V -VMHost video-tmn.tmn.contoso.com -Path "F:\Hyper-V" -Name Brunswick

What's wrong with New-SCV2V in SP1?  I did that migration previously in SP0 RTM fine!

I'm trying to convert a VMware 4.1 2008 R2 server and have it hosted on a 2012 Hyper-v host using VMM 2012.  I keep receiving this error when it tries to convert the hard drive:

I do a trace and I come up with this:

Any ideas?
